Why a Jimmy Plumer skateboard?  This is why!

Jimmy Plumer, 51, a commercial diver who lives in Atlantic Beach.

He was a pro skater and still gets royalties from boards that bear his name:

“There’s a maneuver now that me and Mitch invented called the elevator drop. It’s universal now. It was in 1975 we invented it.

You know how you set the board on the edge, step on the nose and drop in? That’s an elevator drop. A friend of ours had drained his pool.

He lived in Jacksonville Beach. It was a little kidney pool, a 6-foot pool.

We were all, ‘What if we just put the board on the edge and dropped in?’ We did that, crashed and burned for what seemed like all day, though it was only a couple of hours.

Mitch did the first one, then I did it. We were the first-ever.

He finally got credited for it at the skateboard hall of fame. You’d get hip bruises, fall on your elbows, your hips.

We’d just shake it off, but we were young kids. That’s why I walk funny now, all those broken bones and all that.”
